Spotlight On....Entertainment

No wedding is complete without elements of entertainment; it is essential to keep the day flowing and your guests occupied while you are perhaps having your photographs taken, changing outfits or individually greeting guests.

Entertainment encompasses everything from Photo Booths to DJs and Magicians to Harpists. It’s an ever-growing category as vendors come up with more and more innovative ideas to keep your guests entertained and add fun and interest to your wedding day.

This month we are pleased to place the ‘Spotlight On’ our Professional Members in this entertaining category!

Sometimes you want some peace and quiet and sometimes you want to be entertained! Whether your event is indoor or outdoor, large or small we will assist you in finding the perfect entertainment for you and your guests.Perhaps something or someone quirky and interactive to break the ice, the latest up & coming cabaret performances or bands, through to world-renowned artists – our resources are limitless. Have a look at our A2Z for some inspiration (link above). Let us know what you have in mind and we will send you some suggestions – all our proposals include photos, full descriptions and MP3’s & video footage where available.

Guy Stevens

The thought of a wedding DJ sometimes conjures the image of a person who arrives at the end of the wedding breakfast carrying a lot of black boxes from the back of his car into the venue ready to play “at” the guests for a few hours. The equipment is sometimes unsuitable for the venue, too big or too small, and the style of music is often inappropriate for the guests. The person the bride and bridegroom asked to entertain their guests turns out to be worse than an unwanted gate-crasher. The main reason the DJ has agreed to perform was to feed their own ego and furnish their pocket.

When you book Guy Stevens for your wedding or your clients' wedding, none of the above will be true.

The DJ mentioned earlier, will probably say that all weddings are the same, Guy will tell you that every wedding is unique. It’s the DJ's role to tune into those differences and to provide the right soundtrack for the memories that are being made. Guy asks for some music suggestions before your party and is more than happy to receive requests during the evening. Many years of experience will help to ensure the music flows, there’s nothing nicer than hearing an audience “ooh” and “aah” as they recognise the next track and realise the party is moving up a gear. Guy will capture the moment and play the right music for the dancing. Also, as Guy always offers to set-up before the guests arrive, he will also be able to provide a lot more. Setting up early provides the client with peace of mind, it avoids disruption, it also means that there is a sound system available for background music in the afternoon. Guy also provides a radio microphone for speeches and, if you don’t have a Toastmaster, is happy to make announcements and MC your event. Once the equipment is set, where ever possible, the van will be moved away from view and Guy change into smart attire for the rest of the day.

Tuning in to the needs of the guests can be selecting a piece of rousing music for the entrance of the couple or building the music program to get everyone on the floor, but it can also be lending an extra cable to the band, discussing the running order with the photographer or helping behind the scenes. Guy has been at weddings in challenging locations, running an extra 30m extension lead for overt a crisis has occurred more than a couple of times in the past. On one occasion, at a marquee wedding on an unusually hot day, Guy drove his van to the local Tesco to buy a few crates of water for the thirsty guests! All part of the service.

Guy is more than a DJ, from the first point of contact to switching off the generator and shutting the gates, you’ll have peace of mind all the way. Guy Stevens, DJ, based in London, available throughout the UK and abroad.
